  4.     Ted Turner has a novel solution for global problems: since the
  5. planet's future is too important to be left to scientists, give
  6. writers a chance to see what they can do. And to inspire them, the
  7. media captain and boss of CNN announced last week that he was
  8. offering rewards for the best literary work with themes ensuring
  9. survival and prosperity. "We're floundering around as a species
  10. right now," says Turner. The world will be a better place for the
  11. winner. The modestly named Turner Tomorrow Awards carry a first
  12. prize of $500,000, the biggest cash award ever for a work of
  13. fiction.
